Going green and saving energy are hot topics in the real estate market. Realtors like Century 21 Island Realty has been on the forefront in listing new properties that employ energy saving methods and existing buildings with the potential for conversion to cleaner energy systems.

St. Maarten has had recent law changes to encourage property owners to delve further into cleaner and green energy systems. This has given rise to more property owners outfitting their homes and businesses with solar panels to run their entire operations or just essential equipment.

Century 21 Island Realty Head Broker Ritika Asrani says owners like realtors are aware of the changing tide when it comes to green energy. “More buyers, especially from North America and Europe, enquire about energy saving systems in buildings or the possibility of make such a conversion.”

Power supply on St. Maarten is via fossil fuel generators cooled by ocean water. The supply is constant and reliable. “However with sunshine almost every day of the year, solar panels are a great investment,” says Asrani.

Access to energy saving systems has become easier over the past two years. More companies have opened and offer either US energy saving solutions or European methods.

Century 21 Island Realty has a comprehensive listing of single family homes, exclusive villas, commercial properties and land. Most have the potential for energy saving system conversion, Asrani points out. “We can all do our part for the environment from realtors listing homes with breathtaking gardens to realtors looking for energy saving potential in properties offered to buyers.”
