Imperial Tobacco today announced that its recently launched website for finding smoker friendly places, Smoke Spots, has surpassed expectations and become the number one service site for smokers in the UK^.

Comparing benchmarks for websites offering services for smokers such as visit volumes and share, Smoke Spots overtook competitors, from July 2013, to become the top site in this category.

The site has been a big hit with smokers. In a recent consumer focus group** run by Imperial Tobacco one person described it as “Top Table for Smokers” whilst another commented, “This is very useful… I would definitely recommend it to a friend”.

The popularity of Smoke Spots is indicative of the recognised need for a place for smokers to go online; to find other smokers, share smoking experiences and review places to go that are smoker-friendly.

On the site, where users can submit ‘spots’ - pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs that have smoking facilities - the database is growing quickly and is about to hit 1,000 venues thanks to the submissions of the eager community.

That community is further evident on Facebook^^^, where the page has over 2.5 thousand “Likes”, just four months after launch. One fan commented, “Excellent this is more of what we want.” Whilst another stated simply, "Very cool site!!!"

It’s not just consumers who are getting behind the site either, some of the industry’s top bloggers are joining in. Forest’s Simon Clark posted the Smoke Spots competition on his website~ recently, inviting his audience to enter. Whilst Dick Puddlecote^^ supported the site by telling his readers he had submitted a spot and even entered the competition, commenting that the site “is doing a great job!”

Whilst Smoke Spots UK is still in its infancy, this recent success at hitting the top spot is simply fueling the existing global plans, already in motion, for this site’s concept.
