With the MacBeacon app from Radius Networks, you can turn any Macintosh computer running OS X 10.9 and equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 into a fully-configurable, iBeacon proximity beacon.

Radius Networks, Inc., the leading provider of mobile proximity services, today announced the release of its MacBeacon virtual iBeacon application for Macintosh computers.

iBeacons are short range, Bluetooth Low Energy transmitters that can notify mobile devices when they come within 100 feet of the beacon. This micro-location proximity awareness can be leveraged to deliver a wide range of new innovative solutions, such as precision indoor navigation, automatic ticketing, guided museum tours and location-relevant offers and promotions.

"iBeacons are generally thought of as stand-alone devices using specialized hardware. With the MacBeacon app from Radius Networks, now you can make virtual iBeacons that run in software on your Mac. We think MacBeacon is the perfect tool for people that are interested in experimenting with iBeacons and developing iBeacon-enabled moble applications," said David Helms, Vice President of Business Development at Radius Networks.

"The release of iOS 7 makes it possible to develop some pretty cool proximity-aware apps for iPhone and iPad devices," said Chris Sexton, Director of Engineer at Radius Networks. "MacBeacon is an essential tool that I use every day to develop and test iBeacon mobile solutions. It’s made our whole team so much more productive, and now I can’t imagine doing my job without it."

"MacBeacon is a great addition to our suite of iBeacon technologies that also includes our iBeacon hardware kits, our iPhone and Android iBeacon SDKs, our proximity cloud services and our iLocate iBeacon discovery application. The addition of MacBeacon is continued proof that Radius Networks is the market leader in the enabling technologies that are helping developers deliver real mobile proximity solutions to their customers."
