We pride ourselves on being the un-lawyers. We work with our clients in small and medium size businesses proactively on personnel issues so we can identify and stop problems before they become claims.

Alva Cross, a labor and employment law attorney with experience at top regional and national law firms exclusively representing employers, announces she has formed Cross HR Law, which will focus on keeping small-to-medium size employers out of court. The firm’s philosophy is centered on educating employers on how to avoid common costly and preventable mistakes.

“We pride ourselves on being the un-lawyers,” commented Cross. “We work with our clients in small and medium size businesses proactively on personnel issues so we can identify and stop problems before they become claims. Our fees are structured so that our clients don’t hesitate to call and ask questions before making personnel decisions that could turn out to be costly.”

Over the last several years, Florida has consistently ranked in the top three in the nation for wage and hour lawsuits. But it is not just unpaid wages and overtime claims. The most recent numbers show that Florida had the second highest number of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) discrimination and harassment claims nationwide.

“One harassment or overtime claim can be devastating to a small-to-medium size business. We use a proactive, three-part approach focused on coaching, training and compliance,” said Cross. “This unique approach allows us to work with our clients to identify potential workplace issues before they occur and, in turn, minimize the risk of litigation.”
