Throughout the year, businesses often have charity collection tins located on their premises and unfortunately, these can be vulnerable to theft despite their position by the till.

It has been reported by London 24 in the article titled ‘CCTV: Appeal after Poppy Appeal Tin Stolen from Garage’ published on November 1 that police have released CCTV images of a man and woman they wish to speak to in connection with the alleged theft of the Poppy Appeal collection tin. London 24 reports that police believe that an individual used scissors to cut the collection tin away from the till while the manager of the garage was distracted, before taking the tin and joining another individual outside.

Police describe the man as black, aged approximately 21 and wearing a dark coloured coat with a white jumper which bore horizontal black stripes. The woman is described by police as also approximately 21 years old, around 5ft 5ins tall, and wearing a dark coloured jacket, black leggings and white shoes or boots.

It was later reported by London 24 on November 5 in the article titled 'CCTV Footage Shows Man's Poppy Appeal Collection Theft,' an individual has pleaded guilty to the theft.

As a leading business security provider, AlertSystems understand the importance of installing CCTV security systems on a business’ premises. The experts closely follow industry news and were interested in the release of these CCTV images. A representative for the company offered their thoughts:

“Throughout the year, businesses often have charity collection tins located on their premises and unfortunately, these can be vulnerable to theft despite their position by the till. With this in mind, it is important to have sufficient CCTV coverage of this area. Not only can a CCTV security system be valuable in monitoring this area to protect against thefts from the store, it can also provide coverage of charity boxes and collection tins. While it is hoped that collection tins which hold donations from members of the public will not be stolen by individuals, having CCTV systems in place can offer further security to the area. In the event of a crime, police can then use the footage as part of their enquiries and bring their investigations to a successful conclusion.”
