Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) and Miami‐Dade College (MDC) have once again partnered to provide the MDX‐MDC Entrepreneurship Program. The program was developed to offer qualified applicants specific college credit courses that focus on the fundamental skills needed to operate, manage and build a successful business. Since its inception in 2012, the program has graduated two (2) classes for a total of 14 individuals that attest to the invaluable education, information and network opportunity provided to them through this program.
“MDX believes education is the foundation for positive economic development in Miami-Dade County,” said MDX Procurement Manager Helen Cordero. “Helping to ensure there is qualified and skilled small and local businesses competing for contracts not only with MDX but with other agencies as well, is only one of the ways MDX invests in the economic vitality of our community.”
The courses are offered entirely free to certified small businesses and the twelve (12) college credits earned can also be used towards an MDC business degree. The MDX‐MDC Entrepreneurship Program is a five‐month program from January through May, 2014.
“The program emphasizes on four fundamental areas of business including; modern business entrepreneurship, the nature and requirements of selling, effective e-commerce, and the essentials for good business management” said Cordero.
Classes are held twice a week in the morning which requires a commitment in both time and effort. This program is administered by Miami‐Dade College as regular college courses; therefore, attendance and assignments must be fulfilled in order to receive a certificate and earn the college credits.
