Frederick Walsh, technical project manager for Estenda Solutions, will present the Global Retinal Imaging (GRI) software at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 2013 Annual Meeting, held November 16-19, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The GRI software developed by Estenda, which won 2nd place in the Health 2.0 Ocular Imaging Challenge, facilitates standardized, technician-led retinal image capture from a variety of ophthalmic instruments and imaging protocols.
Released in April 2012, GRI was designed and created with an administrator application to configure system properties, a client application for image capture, and a Windows service for DICOM communication and image transfer. GRI imaging occurs in a wide range of settings, from full-service, specialty centers to extremely remote micro clinics. “[GRI] is a modular system that supports most acquisition modalities. Standards-based compliance is very important,” said Walsh.
Walsh, who graduated from Drexel University with a B.S. in Computer Science, has been with Estenda since 2005. He began working in Hawaii, administrating a diabetic retinopathy screening system and working on integration between medical laboratories and the Comprehensive Disease Management Program. Walsh later returned to the mainland to develop GRI and other custom medical software for Estenda.
Walsh’s presentation will be an hour long, once-a-day, from November 15-17, in the IHE booth in the Technology Pavilion. He will be speaking about the award winning software, its customers, both national and international, and the importance of utilizing medical imaging standards.
