It has been reported by the Express and Star on November 11 in the article ‘CCTV Released after Doorman Injured in Hammer Attack’ that police have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to after a doorman was injured after being allegedly attacked with a hammer. The incident, which occurred shortly after midnight on Friday September 13, is believed to have occurred after a fight broke out between a man inside the nightclub and a member of staff. The doorman attempted to help his colleague but was allegedly hit on the head with a small hammer. He reportedly experienced facial injuries which were treated in hospital.
Detective Constable Matt Lynch from Force CID told the Express and Star that:
“The bouncer suffered several nasty cuts to his face which had to be glued at hospital – he was fortunate that none of the injuries had had a lasting effect. We want to identify the man in the images as soon as possible and speak to him about what happened. If you recognise him, or were at the club that night and saw something, please come forward and call us.”
As experts with a wealth of experience in business security systems, the security specialists at AlertSystems were interested in the recent release of these CCTV images. A spokesperson for the company offered their comments:
“While CCTV security systems are installed with the purpose of crime prevention and protecting members of the public, these systems can also be installed to protect members of staff. With members of staff such as doormen often employed to provide a safe environment for patrons of the establishment, it is crucial that systems have also been put in place to protect these members of staff. Furthermore, as incidences such as fights in establishments such as nightclubs, bars and pubs are difficult to predict, CCTV security systems have an important role to play in protecting members of staff and customers.
Installing a CCTV security system can be effective as a crime preventative, but in the unfortunate case that a crime such as an attack or assault does occur, the footage can be released by police in an appeal for more information which will help further their investigations.”
