SEO and paid search are now primary drivers of our strategy to build a £1bn+ eCommerce business at the heart of Electrocomponents.
Oxford (PRWEB UK) 19 November 2013
RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, has won the ‘Best In-House Team’ award at the 2013 UK Search Awards for its search engine optimisation (SEO) team. Over a period of just 12 months, the team has successfully engaged the business in SEO activities, boosted the rankings and visibility of the RS website and product range, and generated additional sales revenue. In winning the award, RS overcame competition from Aviva, the Met Office, Moneysupermarket.com, O2, Reed Business Information UK, RBS and Smart Traffic.
Formed to implement and drive the company’s SEO strategy, the SEO team has grown rapidly to become an important part of the company’s eCommerce operation. Its main focus is to take advantage of opportunities to generate traffic and revenue from the ‘natural’ results of web search engines and other web-based data searching portals. A vital part of this has been to increase the awareness of SEO within RS and engage the business in SEO activities.
Working closely with the company’s PR and sales teams, the SEO team has educated the business on the benefits of SEO and used innovative approaches to find reputable sources of content and reciprocal links. These have included making use of the ‘Formula Student’ initiative, which has resulted in universities around the world linking to the RS website, significantly increasing the company’s ranking and traffic from key words. The team has also worked with manufacturers to build richer content for key products, and created optimised and author-attributed content for the RS website.
Keith Reville, Global Marketing Director at Electrocomponents, said: “This award win is an outstanding achievement for our SEO team. Their approach to SEO is a rarity in our industry and their support of the business has ultimately resulted in a huge culture and attitude change. SEO and paid search are now primary drivers of our strategy to build a £1bn+ eCommerce business at the heart of Electrocomponents.”
