We believe women have been led astray with weight loss schemes that more often lead to weight gain, negatively affect their health, and keep them from living the lives they want.
Ludlow, VT (PRWEB) November 21, 2013
Green Mountain at Fox Run, sponsor of Healthy Weight Week 2014, today announced that nominations are being accepted for the Slim Chance Awards, which will name the worst weight loss gimmicks of 2013. This tradition was started 25 years ago by Francie M. Berg, MS, LN, a licensed nutritionist and adjunct professor at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.
As the women’s healthy weight retreat that pioneered the non-diet approach to healthy weights, Green Mountain at Fox Run will sponsor Healthy Weight Week and the awards to continue building public awareness that diets don’t work and, in fact, usually take people in the opposite direction they want to go.
"Healthy Weight Week and the Slim Chance Awards are important educational events to help change public perception that weight determines health and that dieting is a viable health solution," said Marsha Hudnall, MS, RDN, co-owner and president of Green Mountain at Fox Run. "We believe women have been led astray with weight loss schemes that more often lead to weight gain, negatively affect their health, and keep them from living the lives they want."
During Healthy Weight Week, people are encouraged to improve health habits in lasting ways by eating well without dieting, living actively, and thinking positively.
Public nominations for the Slim Chance Awards open on Wednesday, Nov. 20, and close Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. The award winners will be announced before the end of the year. Hudnall is one judge of a five-person panel that will determine the award winners. The four other judges are:
- Annabel Adams, healthy weight blogger at Feed Me, I’m Cranky
- Ashley Solomon, PsyD, founder of the website Nourishing the Soul
- Rebecca Scritchfield, RD, Washington,DC-based dietitian and fitness expert
- Marci Warhaft-Nadler, author of "The Body Image Survival Guide for Parents: Helping Toddlers, Tweens and Teens Thrive"
In addition to the Slim Chance Awards, the week also features:
- The Healthy Body Image Award: One winner who has made strides in helping women accept their bodies and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
- The Healthy Weight Blogger Awards: Healthy weight loss blogs - those that support women finding their healthy weights without dieting.
Contest: One winner of a free week at Green Mountain at Fox Run who will be able to start or continue their journey to health, chosen by the panel of judges for submitting their story of "That moment when… I knew I needed to stop dieting" at the same time they submit their nominations for the Slim Chance Awards.
These awards will be announced during Healthy Weight Week, January 19-25, 2014. All information about Healthy Weight Week, including the nomination form and contest entry form, can be found at http://www.fitwoman.com/hww.
