EAM-Mosca Corporation’s new CTR Series of unitizers have caught the attention of the corrugated industry since their introduction at SuperCorrExpo last Fall. Lauded as a high performing corrugated industry strapping system with up to 7,500 lbs. of press capacity, the CTR is the newest electrically powered unitizer combining rugged construction, a compact footprint, the industry benchmark for high speed, and Mosca’s legacy of outstanding reliability.

The high speed platen drive and up to three rugged Sonixs strapping heads combine to achieve an industry leading 220 unit/hour throughput potential. Integral to the speed and reliability of the new unitizer are the Mosca Sonixs strapping heads which feature DC direct drives and sealed bearing construction for extended service intervals and minimal sensitivity to dust and dirt. The Sonixs strapping head uses a proprietary sonotrode for creating a high-strength seal, and will re-feed strap if there is a fault.
Akers Packaging of Middletown, OH, a 50-year-old privately held corrugated packaging manufacturer and one of the largest independent corrugated companies in the Midwest, was an early adopter of the new CTR. According to Dave Wilson, plant manager, “We were very pleased with the performance of our Mosca Sonixs bundlers and we had faith that the Sonixs technology in the unitizer heads would give us that same superior level of performance. The CTR maintains EAM-Mosca's characteristically robust structural framework in a compact, 68” long footprint in the package flow direction with low-maintenance tangential conveyor roller drives. The CTR offers a unique series of platen safety options - from a static system to prevent platen movement during servicing, to a dynamic Advanced Platen Safety System that provides a zero energy state at any platen position.
The new unitizer also features the optional MoscaTrak diagnostic system. MoscaTrak provides real-time monitoring, data collection and diagnostics to troubleshoot the system and maximize uptime all in a user friendly format and with an economically justifiable price tag.
For sheet feeder plants and large box producers, EAM-Mosca also offers the CTR's sister CTE Series. The CTE features up to four Sonixs strapping heads and a longer conveyor bed; and head spacing designed to minimize platen hits and maximize throughput.
