We at the law firm of Mattern & Mendoza, LLP are proud to announce that both of our attorneys, Lisa Mattern and Margaret Mendoza, have been named to the Top 100 Trial Lawyers. This distinction is awarded by the National Trial Lawyers Association each year to very select civil and criminal defense trial lawyers.

The award is by invitation only, and is given to those who are deemed most qualified from each state who display, as the association indicates, “superior qualifications of leadership, reputation, influence, stature, and public profile.” Inclusion in the list is a clear mark of the attorney’s elite status among her peers.

Lisa Mattern
Ms. Mattern fits definitively on the association’s list. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from University of California, Irvine and her Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. At Loyola Law School she was a member of the distinguished Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review. She was admitted to the State Bar of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California in 1995.

Among individuals she has defended are those facing charges including: Kidnapping, Sexual Battery, Child Molestation, Child Pornography, Murder, Assault and Battery, Criminal Threats, Stalking, Arson, Mayhem, Gang Crimes, DUI, Drug Transportation, and Marijuana Cultivation and Sales offenses. In other words, Lisa Mattern is not afraid to take the tough cases and help clients obtain justice.

Ms. Mattern has also defended clients charged with white-collar crimes such as Counterfeiting, Conspiracy, Fraud, Embezzlement, and many more. She believes strongly in the rights of the accused to have strong and effective legal representation, and is a dedicated and compassionate advocate.

Prior to opening the office of Mattern & Mendoza, Lisa Mattern worked for the Law Offices of the Public Defender for Riverside County. She was a partner with Davis & Mattern, LLP from 2000 through 2008. She worked as a Managing Attorney with the Kavinoky Law Firm from 2007 through 2009 and as a Senior Attorney with Pensanti and Associates, APLC from 2009 through 2011. She also has served as Temporary Judge for the Superior Court, County of Orange. Additionally, Ms. Mattern maintains an Avvo rating of 10.0 or “superb” from peer endorsements and client reviews. The distinctions she holds are indeed impressive, and we are pleased that Ms. Mattern has been recognized as the truly outstanding advocate for the accused that she is.

Margaret Mendoza
Ms. Mendoza has an equally meritorious record, representing clients who are facing criminal charges throughout Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange and Ventura Counties. She has defended clients charged with such offenses as: Attempted Murder, Possession of Weapons, Criminal Threats, Sexual Battery, Assault and Battery, Conspiracy, Burglary, DUI, Child Molestation, and many other crimes, along with Drug and Gang Crimes. She rigorously fights for the rights of her clients.

Ms. Mendoza received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Hood College, after which she earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University School of Law. Admitted to the State Bar of California in 1988, she practiced civil law initially, during which time she successfully represented a toxic shock victim before the California Supreme Court. She worked at the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office for eleven years, defending indigent clients. During her tenure as a Public Defender she drafted and argued substantive and procedural motions, placed clients who were qualified into rehabilitation programs, and helped train new attorney hires.

In 2001, Ms. Mendoza left the Public Defender’s Office. While maintaining a private law practice, she was a committee volunteer for The Sunshine Kids, which raises funds for child cancer victims. She coached middle school students in the Los Angeles County Mock Trial competition, with her school winning first place in the 2005 competition.

In 2007, Ms. Mendoza joined Bird and Bird, APLC as a Senior Associate. In 2009 she accepted a Senior Attorney position with Pensanti and Associates, APLC, in Los Angeles. She began her association with Ms. Mattern soon afterwards, and they formed their partnership in 2011. Ms. Mendoza maintains an Avvo Rating of 10.0 or “superb” from peer endorsements and client reviews. Ms. Mendoza’s legal knowledge and dedication to achieving justice for her clients makes her a highly effective and strong advocate.
