The China Post has reported that changes have been made to the passport application process for British nationals living in Taiwan. The implementation of this policy on December 9 means that British nationals are now required to submit their application to Her Majesty’s Passport Office in the UK. The police changes have been put in place following reviews by the National Audit office with the aim to improve security and ensure consistent decision making.

The previous system for British nationals living in Taiwan required individuals to submit their passport applications to a processing centre in Hong Kong. The decision to change the policy has been made as, according to the British Trade and Cultural Office (BTCO), it was difficult to ensure efficiency overseas. The announcement of passport application changes does not only affect British Nationals in Taiwan, but also those living in countries such as the Philippines, Japan or South Korea.

As one of the leading international removal companies with offices in a range of locations, including Taiwan, the team at Interdean closely follow any changes which may affect British nationals who have moved overseas. A spokesperson for the company offered their comments on this recent news:

“When moving overseas there are many aspects to consider, and it is important to keep up-to-date with any policy changes which may affect passport applications. It is thought that a centralised system will improve efficiency, and this is welcome news for those who are moving to Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, or South Korea. At Interdean, we offer a range of comprehensive services which aim to help make the process as simple as possible and can advise our customers of changes such as these to help with their move overseas.”
