HNTB Adds to Leadership Ranks in California

Infrastructure firm continues to expand long-standing presence in California and the West

HNTB Corporation expanded its leadership team in California and the West Division by naming a new president and a new group director.

Philip Petrocelli has been named president of the firm’s West Division, overseeing vital and complex infrastructure programs in growth markets, including rail/transit, tolling and aviation. Petrocelli brings more than 30 years of infrastructure and transportation experience in the West and throughout the United States.

In his new role at HNTB, Petrocelli will be responsible for leading the operation of the firm’s offices in California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon and Washington. Since joining HNTB in September 2012, he has held the title of chief strategic and corporate development officer.

Before joining HNTB, Petrocelli served as regional chief executive for AECOM with responsibility for 3,100 employees and 50 offices. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO of Boyle Engineering Corporation, a national engineering firm specializing in transportation engineering and water.

Patrick Somerville, PE, has joined HNTB Corporation as a vice president and Southern California group director. Somerville has more than 25 years of experience with civil engineering and management with a focus on municipal transportation and other capital improvement projects throughout Southern California.

In his new role at HNTB, Somerville will collaborate with HNTB’s local leaders to expand the firm’s Southern California transportation practice. He brings long-term relationships and project experience with many of HNTB’s key clients, including Orange County Transportation Authority, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Alameda Corridor East (ACE) Construction Authority, Caltrans, and cities throughout Southern California.

Prior to joining HNTB, Somerville spent 15 years at AECOM. He is a member of the American Public Works Association board of directors, Southern California Chapter and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Somerville has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from California State University, Long Beach.

Recently, the City of Los Angeles selected HNTB to deliver final design and construction support services for the Sixth Street Bridge over the Los Angeles River between downtown and Boyle Heights.
