John Lewis offered the best price for toys this Christmas.

The retail pricing intelligence business Cogenta has released an industry report looking at the price position of the top UK retailers. The report groups the retailers in each category showing the price position with added comments on the findings. The analysis highlights findings such as HMV being 18% more expensive than Amazon over Christmas and John Lewis being considerably cheaper than Toy-r-us, these conclusions support results that have been seen in the market. There were also some less obvious findings such as WHSmith being better value than Amazon for online books, which is probably not a perception consumers have.

Adrian Hobbs, Cogenta’s CEO, commented, “This type of price analysis is really useful. Online sources of product information provide a large, robust raw data set that enables meaningful comparisons between retailers. We are also able to publish the analysis more quickly than traditional methods so the results are more relevant.”

The analysis is based on the same high quality data used by Cogenta’s pricing intelligence customers, who include many of the best know UK retailers and brands. Cogenta are planning to publish regular updates to this analysis at the end of each quarter enabling people to track shifts and trends in the UK retailer market. The report can be downloaded at:
