It made me feel good.

This holiday, the employees at LinkNow Media got to make Christmas a little brighter for children in Montreal. When the president of the company, Wesley Mendelovitch, expressed that he would like to give back to the disadvantaged youths of the city, the staff responded with incredible enthusiasm. In a company of just over 50 people, LinkNow Media employees, aided by the Batshaw Foundation, hit the streets and bought presents for 120 children so they could have a brighter Christmas.
The Batshaw Youth and Family Centres Foundation supports and complements the work of the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres. Batshaw Centres intervenes with children and families in situations of abuse, neglect, and abandonment or when youth have serious behaviour problems. Services are provided in the child’s own family, in foster homes or adoptive homes, or in residential treatment programs.
Each employee got at least one child to purchase a present for, and as one employee, a mother of two small children said, “The idea of a child waking up on Christmas morning with nothing and I look around and my children have an over abundance of toys, I just had to do it.” Another employee stated that “It made me feel good. I kept seeing my nephew’s face on Christmas morning and I wanted to give that to another child.” Every employee was able to make a connection with a child they will never meet and get to be a part in making that child’s Christmas a little bit more exciting.
One staff member said “I know how awesome it is to get exactly what you want on Christmas morning. The idea that I could get my little dude some comic books and Angry Birds stuff and that would make his morning is just too awesome!” One staff member was so enthusiastic about the Batshaw Foundation project that she purchased gifts for 13 children.
The impact was felt outside of the office as well, as the generosity extended to friends and family members of the employees and they decided they wanted to help out and purchase gifts for the children too. Then retail business owners, such as Efi Bar from Toys S.B., gave discounts on toys, ensuring that staff members were able to get a bit more for their dollar and that every child’s smile got a little bit bigger when opening their presents.
The employees have already been talking about how they can help out more children next year, trying to spread the spirit of giving to the next generation. One employee stated “If we could help 120 kids out when we started in November, imagine what we can do if we start in February.” Two LinkNow staff members were able to see the room at the Batshaw Foundation headquarters filled with presents just before the big day and one remarked that “It was overwhelming to see and it made everything we had done worthwhile. To know that each present represented a child who otherwise may not have had anything to open, I felt proud of the LinkNow Media and proud of my colleagues.”
For the LinkNow Media family, it seems that this generosity is just the beginning of what will likely become a holiday tradition for years to come.
