New Britain and New Haven, Conn. (PRWEB) February 01, 2013
The CT Breast Health Initiative, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to supporting local breast cancer research and education, is pleased to open registration for the 10th Annual RACE IN THE PARK, which will be held on Saturday, May 11th at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain.
A Mother’s Day weekend tradition, the RACE IN THE PARK is a fun-filled, day-long event for the entire family. In addition to the RACE itself, the event will feature a Survivor Brunch celebrating individuals in Connecticut who have won the fight against breast cancer and a Touch-a-Truck event sponsored by the City of New Britain. The RACE will also include expanded kids’ activities and an enhanced food court highlighting food trucks from across the state.
“The RACE is both a celebration of survivors and an opportunity to help people to understand the impact that diseases such as breast cancer have on residents in their own communities. For nine years, we have dedicated ourselves 100% to supporting breast cancer research and education in Connecticut and the 10 year anniversary of the RACE is the perfect time to make an even bigger impact,” Joyce Bray, President, CT Breast Health Initiative, said. “We are grateful to NEWS 8 for serving as the presenting sponsor for the RACE and helping find a cure for breast cancer in Connecticut.”
The CT Breast Health Initiative is looking for individuals and teams to join the fight to find a cure for breast cancer in Connecticut. The RACE is a powerful experience for participants and a great teambuilding opportunity for everyone from business colleagues to high school athletes. It is also the CT Breast Health Initiative’s largest fundraising event.
Breast Cancer is a challenge facing many across the nation and right here in Connecticut. As of January 1, 2012, an estimated 2.9 million women living in the US had a history of invasive breast cancer with an additional 226,870 women projected to be diagnosed during the year (American Cancer Society, 2012). It is estimated that one in eight women will develop breast cancer during their lives with 70-80% of breast cancer occurring in women with no family history of the disease.
