Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Names Omer Ahmed to Board

The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Board of Trustees announce Omer Ahmed, President of Abaris Capital Advisors as the newest member of the Board of Governors.

The appointment brings the total members of HOBY’s Board to 17. HOBY is celebrating 55 years as the national leader in youth leadership and service programs.

“As the parent of a HOBY alumnus, and a successful international finance professional, Mr. Ahmed brings a unique and important perspective to the Board of Governors,” HOBY President/CEO Javier La Fianza said. “I really look forward to working with him to grow and strengthen HOBY around the world.”

Ahmed brings more than 20 years of investment experience and active involvement within the ultra high-net worth, and global financial institutions around the world. Abaris Capital Advisors is a Chicago- based investment boutique specializing in alternative asset management portfolio strategies focusing on sovereign wealth funds, global financial institutions, international private banking operations and ultra-high net worth family offices. Prior to Abaris, Omer served as Senior Managing Director at Bear Sterns responsible for the Middle East. He was also President of Crescent Capital Management and held senior positions at Credit Agricole Indosuez Bank, Merrill Lynch International and ABN AMRO Private Banking. Omer has been Executive member of the Four Star Committee for ALSAC St. Jude Children’s Hospital Charity. Mr. Ahmed is currently a board member of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation licensing program and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Center for Financial Services at DePaul University. He is also a Senior Member of the Advisory Board at Vision Brazil Investments and a Senior Principal and Chair of the Advisory Committee of Lifeline Holdings (http://www.lifelineassets.com).

Mr. Ahmed is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. He also completed a post-graduate program on investment decision and behavioral finance at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) is a non-profit organization that seeks to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.

HOBY was founded in 1958 by veteran actor Hugh O’Brian after a visit with Dr. Albert Schweitzer at his clinic in Africa. Motivated by Dr. Schweitzer O’Brian established HOBY. Since its beginning, over 400,000 young people have participated in HOBY’s programs throughout the world. Annually, over 22,000 public and private high schools are invited to select an outstanding tenth grader to attend HOBY leadership development seminars that are run principally by a dedicated group of over 4000 volunteers
