MilitaryOneClick founder and military spouse Jennifer Pilcher has been nominated for Military Spouse of the Year 2013. Voting takes place today, Tuesday February 5, 2013 through Military Spouse Magazine on-line. The contest is sponsored by Armed Forces Insurance, Home Depot and Sittercity and open to the public to vote.
According to Military Spouse Magazine, "Military Spouse magazine founded the Military Spouse of the Year® (MSOY) award in 2008 to honor military spouses of all ranks and from all branches of service. More than a million military spouses support and maintain the home front while our service members defend this great nation. The Military Spouse of the Year® award recognizes military spouses' important contributions and unwavering commitment to the military community and our country."
Jennifer Pilcher has been a military spouse for over 15 years and has been through numerous deployments and moves. She has volunteered in the military community and co-founded the non-profit United States Naval Academy Military Mothers of Preschooler Program in Annapolis Maryland in 2008. After this experience, Pilcher decided to hold off on returning to her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist to start a website organization that connects military families with community resources. According to Pilcher, "there was a missing link between the Department of Defense and the community. Over 70% of military families live off base in the community and we need to work together to improve the lifestyles of our military families." With a team of military and civilian spouses, MilitaryOneClick now reaches thousands of people a week on an international level through their website, Facebook and twitter platforms. Pilcher said, "the military might move you, but we will always be here 24/7 with the best military and non-military resources you need."
Fellow military spouses and friends nominated Jennifer for the Military Spouse of the Year award. Pilcher commented, "this award is not about what I have done, it's about what we can do together in 2013 to make substantial improvements to the military spouse community." Pilcher has advocated for military families with top military and Congressional leaders on issues of employment, healthcare, education and military children. She has been introduced by Dr. Jill Biden at the White House for a Military Mothers Day tea celebration where Pilcher had the honor of introducing The First Lady. MilitaryOneClick also became the first military spouse owned business to be accepted into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership with the Department of Defense in 2012. Fellow MSEP partners are top Fortune 500 companies such as MetLife, Amazon, Navy Federal, USAA, and other companies working with the military such as ProTrain, Sittercity and tutor.com.
