According to The New England Journal of Medicine research has found that if smokers quit before they are 40 they have the same life expectancy as a non smoker. In response to the study the NCH has released an account from a therapist with a happy client who expressed their joy at kicking the habit of smoking. The client was in their late 50s and had been trying to quit smoking for many years. The client had tried lots of other tactics but always started smoking again. The client had promised a family member that they would stop smoking and so contacted the therapist looking for help to do this. When the client started his first session he smoked 40 plus cigarettes per day, working outside and always having a cigarette through habit. The client had been smoking this amount for over forty years and felt that it would be impossible for him to give up.
At the beginning of the session the client expressed a real desire to stop and was open to any techniques that would help him stop. The hypnotherapist addressed the client’s willpower and control issues by working directly with his subconscious, bypassing the critical mind and getting to the root of the issue so that changes could be made to support the client’s aim of stopping smoking. At the end of the session the client left a non smoker and has not smoked since.
The National Council of Hypnotherapy (NCH) is delighted to hear such an effective case, as a representative from the company explained, ‘Smoking is one of the hardest habits to beat and this proves that hypnotherapy can be such a great way to kick it. The client had been smoking 40 cigarettes a day for forty years – a well established routine and addiction, yet he left the session a non smoker and has not since smoked.’
The National Council of Hypnotherapy continues to inform others of the positive outcomes achievable through hypnotherapy.
