Kansas City, Mo. (PRWEB) February 07, 2013
David Dods, URS environmental engineer; Jim Schuessler, BNIM landscape architect; Brenda L. Thomas, Marlborough Community Coalition leader; and Councilmember Cindy Circo will share strategies for using green infrastructure to grow prosperous communities during a workshop at the 2013 New Partners for Smart Growth Conference.
The “Green Infrastructure as Convergence of Political Leadership, Architecture and Engineering” session will take a closer look at how to combine architecture, ecology, engineering and neighborhood renewal in an effort to improve stormwater management. It will take place Friday, Feb. 8, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Convention Center.
The URS Green Solutions team recently completed work with Kansas City Water Services Department on the country’s largest green infrastructure pilot project to reduce Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs). While addressing CSOs, the project also provides supplemental benefits to the community, such as “green streets” that incorporate rain gardens; porous sidewalks and aesthetic improvements; and cleaner water and air.
The 12th Annual New Partners for Smart Growth Conference unites leaders from multiple disciplines to work toward a goal of building safe, healthy and successful communities. The three-day conference, Feb. 7-9, will include more than 90 educational sessions and close to 400 speakers on topics ranging from housing to transportation to sustainability.
