In 2009, Klus Designs, an LED manufacturer based out of Florida, built a home that featured 100% LED lighting indoors and out. They called it “The House Without A Bulb”. Marketing manager Zofia Stebnicki explained “Our house without a bulb features 50 different and fully functional types of LED lighting applications. We built this home not only to show the effectiveness and unlimited possibilities that are available using LED technologies, but to promote green living and eco-friendly products.”
Some experts predict that LED market penetration between the year of 2010 and the year of 2020 to be in excess of 60%, and even more if pricing continues to drop. It seems like a natural progression, as LED lights become more affordable for homeowners, due to the many advantages they offer over any other bulb type, LED’s will inevitably become the preferred light source for most residential and commercial applications.
Just a few years ago, it would come as no surprise if most people had never heard of LED lighting, especially an LED light bulb for home lighting.
The development of LED technology in the past few years has been exponential, but high prices have kept them out of the mainstream, until now that is. Incandescent bulbs can still be found, but it has been the compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL’s) that are easiest to find in home improvement store and even supermarkets. But that is all about to change as LED prices continue to drop. The future looks bright for LED light bulbs (pun intended).
While LED bulbs are not at the moment normally considered as the primary light source in households or even in industrial spaces, they are currently used in interior decoration as a classy addition or to increase safety by illuminating hallways, stairs, parking spots, cabinets, furniture and so on.
However, LED’s have so many benefits compared to old school incandescent and CFL bulbs that it won’t be long until the majority of homes use LED bulbs for almost every lighting application.
LED’s are extremely durable, offer thousands of hours of lifespan, work in any temperature, are super energy efficient, and due to size and flexibility can be used in limitless applications.
The versatility of LEDs and the fact that they there are multiple choices of color available makes them perfect for all types and styles of home lighting configurations.
