On April 24th 2012, Google updated their algorithms to target so-called ‘black hat’ link spamming, to combat websites using these techniques from gaming the system.
“[this is an] important algorithm change targeted at webspam. The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines,” Google explained on their blog (titled "Another step to reward high quality sites" April 24th 2012).
Layered Links disagrees with that assumption, “Business is about maximizing your profile so you can maximize sales, but there’s a right way to do it and we follow that process carefully.” Link building services are Layered Links bread and butter, and they claim, are a legitimate technique for improving a business’ online rankings providing the links are built with quality.
“As all webmasters know link building is still incredibly effective. In fact you can’t get top rankings without it. What changed in 2012 is the type of links required and the method of building these links. Without a doubt if you know the correct formula link building still creates exceptional results.”
The 2012 Google updates created a watershed moment in SEO. Layered Links spent over 6 months testing different strategies against the new algorithm. The results of those tests have allowed them to design a strategy that is effective for the algorithm in 2013. Their packages for 2013 have been thoroughly tested in the current environment which changed back in April 2012.
Layered Links believe black hat techniques are still effective in the short term but can cause serious medium and long term damage to a business. A spokesperson commented;
“Although Google moved forward massively in detecting spammy low quality link building these techniques can still work. However within a matter of months Google catches up with sites who have employed these techniques and then quite literally obliterates them. So we would urge webmasters to use carefully planned, quality link building services. Our service has been rebuilt from the ground up to cater to the new search landscape and been tested and tweaked hundreds of times. Our diversity of links also plays a part in achieving top rankings while protecting the sites longevity in Google.”
