Portland start-up Opal Labs (http://www.workwithopal.com) has been invited to provide its social application Opal Brainstorms to the highly regarded TEDxAustin experience and community. Opal’s flagship social application will allow event participants, partners, speakers and interested followers to engage in conversations inspired by this year’s event –TEDxAustin 2013: FearLess on February 9, 2013 at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Opal Brainstorms was designed to unlock the collaboration and problem-solving potential of any organization by surfacing the ideas across geographies, between teams and among customers and partners. Opal Brainstorms creates a dedicated space for creative problem solving and turning ideas into actionable outcomes. Opal built the app on a cloud platform so anyone can participate in a Brainstorm from any computing device at any time an idea occurs.

This year’s TEDxAustin event attendees, live-stream viewers and viewing party participants can engage with virtual brainstorms hosted by TEDxAustin partners Whole Foods, car2go and TreeHouse –not to mention with this year’s speakers, who will be revealed at 12:01 a.m. the day of the event. These live, digital brainstorms will tackle everything from the world’s most provocative challenges to the internal conversations we each engage in daily.

“At TEDxAustin, we believe in the power of ideas,” said TEDxAustin’s Curator Shawna Butler. “That’s why we've partnered with Opal Labs to extend and amplify the conversations sparked by the ideas our speakers share. We’re delighted, inspired, and fascinated by insights gained when thought leaders have access to the collective wisdom of our community. Watching ideas take flight when they have forum to flourish is breath taking.”

“Ideas can be bold. But they can also be shy,” said George Huff, Opal Labs CEO and co-founder. “That’s why we developed Opal Brainstorms – to allow even the shyest of ideas to be heard and give every mind the opportunity to collaborate and build on the ideas worth spreading. We’re thrilled to fuel the idea engine that’s already revving in the hearts and minds of this year’s TEDxAustin speakers and partners.”

The TEDxAustin community can join any brainstorm by creating a profile at https://tedxaustin.ouropal.com. Community members can participate in any or all of the TEDxAustin Brainstorms. All ideas are encouraged, from the practical to the profound –and everything in between.

“What’s exciting about TEDxAustin and TED in general, is the concept of spreading ideas from one person to many,” said Huff. “For us to facilitate participation with these highly engaged audiences at scale is an exciting experiment. We’re hopeful this will serve as a blueprint for the global TEDx community.”
