Window treatments & custom window fashions are the perfect way to transform the personal space at home into a styled sanctuary, says Vogue Window Fashion's decorator Haily Lawrence. She discussed a few ways to transform the look of a home with stylish window treatments.

"Our windows are the perfect place to start when it comes to putting a style statement in our house. It's an emphatic touch, subconsciously the centre of our rooms, so it makes sense to spend some time making it as fabulous as it should," says Lawrence.

She has identified five tips to encourage giving a 'feel good' look to a room:

1. Create a personal masterpiece:
“Our homes are extensions of our personalities” says Lawrence, who was born and raised in Miami until she was 22 when she moved to NYC and partnered with Vogue Window Fashion.

"Matching or contrasting a window treatment color to a room's paint or vice-versa is a good place to start, while reframing old photos, adding a complimenting rug and reupholstering a chair could be stunning finishes if you're feeling really adventurous."

When it comes to color, Lawrence says be bold!

"Bright colors naturally make us happy and feel energetic," she said. “Add some eclectically colored Roman shades, curtains or other soft window fashions and make a mark. Look to bright colors to lift the mood – and take a lead from recent style trends, where sheers are becoming ever so popular in window treatments stores and for other designers as more and more people want to maintain their outside view to add vibrancy.”

2. While on color… black & white is the new Black:
"Chanel-inspired" home decor and window fashions using black and white contrasts are incredibly hot right now.

"Black & white is big this year in all its forms. Especially in NYC, where as mainly a window treatment store and decorator we have seen huge interest in black & white combos. And it blends in with most style choices. Think innovatively about how to bring it into your home while making it work for you," she added. “Introduce some sateen, modern ripple fold black draperies in front of a white sheer curtain, or design a two-toe curtain to achieve that dramatic look. Review the soft furnishings and see how to incorporate a sheen of black and white into the cushions or throw pillows.”

3. Create simplicity and tranquility:

“Everyone has 1,001things to do a day, so having the home give that soft relaxation is so important. Choose window treatments that feature sheers and a soft decor to achieve this little goal. Besides offering privacy while still maintaining the outside view, window treatments that incorporate sheer fabrics have always had this way of softly transforming sunlight and giving the home a relaxing vibe," says Lawrence. “Try Hunter Douglas Pirouettes & Silhouettes as they achieve these goals with unmatched elegance.”

4. Honor the luxury:
Motorized window treatments could be quite the expense, but are well worth it.

"Controlling your window treatments by a click of a button adds so much luxury and value to a home - I've seen homes add up to 25% in selling value just because they had techy innovations like motorized shadings and draperies," says Lawrence.

5. Use vacations to make the home stand out:

"Traveling, besides being a way to forget the day to day drama is a great way to acquire new style ideas and an amazing way to get your home to stand out from the rest by being unique and one-of-a-kind," says Lawrence.
