San Diego, CA (PRWEB) February 07, 2013
Bill Howe Plumbing officially launched the third annual “Howe” Healthy is Your Heart Drawing Contest on Friday February 1, 2013. The official launch date also marked the beginning of “Heart” month and the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign. The San Diego plumber has been an advocate of healthy lifestyles for many years and the team-up has proven to be a successful combination for both the American Heart Association (AHA) and Bill Howe Plumbing.
The “Howe” Healthy is your Heart Drawing Contest is another way for Bill Howe Plumbing to give back to the local community and raise awareness for healthy living. The contest is open to children ages 5-12, and they are asked to draw their idea of how to keep their hearts healthy. In its first year, the contest received approximately 200 entries. In 2012, the AHA and the San Diego Plumber teamed up to launch the contest with a “Kick-Off Party” held at the New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego. It was a huge success and they repeated the event on January 13, 2013. The 2013 “Howe” Healthy is Your Heart Kick-off party saw over 1200 people come through the event and 150 entries were completed.
The contest ends March 29, 2013 and both the AHA and the Bill Howe Family of Companies expect to have more entries in 2013 than the previous two years combined. Contest entry forms are available on the Bill Howe website, on their Facebook page and in elementary schools throughout the county, as well as at participating Kohl’s and Ross stores. In their own company, they have sponsored weekly yoga for the employees, a “Biggest Loser” competition and offer fruit, yogurt and whole grain-rich foods for breakfast at the monthly company meetings.
The child with the winning entry will win a $250 gift card for Toys ‘R Us and an invitation for the entire family to attend the San Diego Heart Ball at the Hotel Del Coronado in June, the only “no shoes required” Ball in San Diego. The event includes a cocktail hour and reception, dancing and a live auction raising funds for the AHA. The winning child and their family get to have a great time and mingle with the San Diego plumber and other philanthropic leaders in the community. Bill Howe Plumbing is also giving five additional Toys ‘R Us $100 gift cards; four runners up in each age category and a special “Most Liked” prize for the Facebook fan vote that will be posted in April.
“We are so pleased to sponsor the American Heart Association for a third year. The drawing contest is a lot of fun and a great way to get children involved in the movement to raise awareness of healthy living,” says Tina Howe, Vice President of the Bill Howe Family of Companies. “We encourage all of our family and employees to get active in raising heart health awareness too, making them ambassadors for a healthier and happier community. After all, healthy hearts and healthy pipes really do make happy homes.”
