Top Echelon Poll: 32% of Recruiters Have Industry Certification

Like all professions, recruiting is one that changes and evolves over time, presenting unique challenges to those who work within it.

As such, recruiters are continuously looking to gain an edge, and that edge often takes the form of industry training and/or certification. Unlike many professions, though, certifications aren’t a prerequisite for those who want to work in the profession.

Since it’s truly an optional endeavor, how many recruiters have an industry certification?

According to a recent poll conducted by Top Echelon Network, an elite network of highly specialized search firms, 32% of Network recruiters indicated they have an industry certification.

As part of that poll, Top Echelon Network asked the following question: “Do you have a recruiting certification?”

Over 20% of poll participants (20.4%) indicated that, “Yes, I have the CPC.” (CPC stands for Certified Personnel Consultant.)

Nearly 3% of recruiters chose, “Yes, I have the CPC and the CTS” as their answer. (CTS stands for Certified Temporary Staffing Specialist.)

Only 1% of recruiters chose, “Yes, I have the CPC and the CERS” as their answer. (CERS stands for Certified Employee Retention Specialist.)

However, 1.5% of poll participants currently hold the CPC, the CTS, and the CERS. In addition, 6.6% of recruiters indicated that “Yes, I have a certification other than these.”

On the flip side of the coin, 67.9% of recruiters polled don’t have an industry certification of any kind.

According to Membership Development Coordinator Drea Codispoti, who holds both the CPC and the CERS, Top Echelon Network advocates continuous training and education to its Preferred Member recruiters. This includes obtaining industry certifications such as the CPC, CTS, and CERS.

“We want our recruiters to be ‘the best of the best,’” said Codispoti. “We believe that part of becoming the best is constantly striving to evolve in order to meet current and future challenges. While our recruiters are always looking to hone their skills and abilities, we also encourage them to earn one of the many industry certifications that are offered by organizations like the National Association of Personnel Services.”
