Canadian and foreign business data hosted on U.S. based clouds are susceptible to surveillance by U.S. government officials under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. In order to address this Maximizer recently introduced viable options companies and organizations can take to ensure the security of sensitive customer information.

The solution is to keep this data in Canada, hosted in a private Canadian data center that offers complete security and the peace of mind that your client information cannot be accessed.

In response to the growing concerns over cloud computing laws governing foreign users and businesses whose data is stored and hosted in the United States, Maximizer CRM is now providing safe, secure and viable cloud options for customers of its CRM suite of products in Canada.

"A large number of organizations, particularly those in Canada, have embraced the simplicity and IT cost savings of running key business applications within cloud data centers. Taking advantage of cloud data services does not have to come at the cost of sacrificing data security or with exposing that data to mass surveillance policies empowered by the Patriot Act/ FISA within the United States," explained John Easton, Director of Product Management & Strategic Relations at Maximizer. "The solution is to keep this data in Canada, hosted in a private Canadian data center that offers complete security and the peace of mind that your client information cannot be accessed."

With recent updates that allow more flexible deployment options, companies can now host Maximizer within their own private cloud, or on Maximizer's Canadian based servers effectively bypassing the potential exposure and data breaches under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). The Act, which allows U.S. government officials to lawfully conduct surveillance on foreigners' data accessible in U.S. clouds, means non-U.S. businesses that have data on cloud servers operated by U.S. organizations are highly susceptible.

"When advising Canadian clients in the financial services industry and within the public sector we ensure they understand all available deployment options for our CRM solutions," added Easton. "A growing number of these clients understand the potential risks of hosting data outside of Canada which makes a Canadian hosted data center an ideal option."

Although the magnitude of risk is still unknown, the idea of U.S. surveillance has many Canadian and foreign organizations rethinking where their data is hosted and the solution providers they work with.
