On Monday, February 4th, recently launched Roopstigo Mobile Sports Network (http://www.roopstigo.com) showcased its latest animation satire short, "The Intimidator Blues: NASCAR's Road to Nowhere," on one of its eight distinctly themed channels of original content, TOONS. Selena Roberts, best-selling author and Roopstigo's Founder/CEO, conceived the story while up and coming visual artist, Taylor Armstrong, was responsible for its animation, music, and lyrics. The short, just less than 4 minutes in length, is an edgy depiction of the ghost of NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt satirically exploring the various reasons attributed to NASCAR's decreasing attendance while in song.

The piece, emblematic of Roopstigo's slogan, "Sports Without Boundaries," received a polarizing reaction due to Earnhardt's chorus of "N-A-S-C-A-R, you took my life but now you're breaking my heart, Lord tell me where all the people have gone today." Other sources of controversy were a racy and mocking depiction of Danica Patrick and a belittling portrayal of Dale Jr. playing with a toy car. While many viewers found it witty and reacted to it positively via social media, others found it offensive.

Roopstigo is a revolutionary website and free app available on all platforms founded by Selena Roberts, best-selling author and award-winning sports journalist for Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and The New York Times, and advised by former president of HBO Sports and Madison Square Garden, Seth Abraham. Roopstigo is attempting to shift the paradigm in how fans consume sports content by offering free, long-form journalism with interactive features, documentaries, video shorts, and animation created by some of sports media’s most renowned figures on a mobile platform across 8 distinctly themed channels. During Roopstigo's recent launch month, it accumulated over 103,000 unique visitors, surpassing the comparable launch figures of other successful digital sports properties such as Time Warner's Bleacher Report, ESPN's Grantland, and Vox Media's SB Nation. Roopstigo was recently featured on Good Morning America, MSNBC, Forbes.com, and BusinessWeek.com.
