The 2013 South Metro Development Outlook Conference will feature key political officials, industry professionals and community and business leaders participating in a number of sessions focused on topics including the Fiscal Cliff, Savannah Port and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport's "Aerotropolis". Two top leaders, U.S. Congressman David Scott and Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed, will engage in a candid discussion about the impact of lawmaker’s decisions and indecisions on Atlanta Southern Region’s ability to compete.

The Conference will take place on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC), 2000 Convention Center Concourse in Atlanta, Georgia.

South Metro Development Outlook is the brainchild of former Fulton County Commissioner, Michael Hightower and managing partner of The Collaborative Firm, an Atlanta based company specializing in planning, program management and development. The forum serves as a platform to provide an annual regional exchange for individuals with a common interest in examining and discussing relevant issues in Atlanta’s Southern Region and beyond. The featured counties include Clayton, Coweta, Douglas, Fayette, Henry, Spalding and South Fulton, as well as the City of Atlanta.

The session on Aerotropolis will feature industry experts examining how the Atlanta Region leverages Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for greater economic competiveness.

“Atlanta’s Southern Crescent, home of the world’s largest airport, has the potential to become a leader in economic renewal,” said Michael Hightower, South Metro Development Outlook host and managing partner of The Collaborative Firm. “Elected officials, business owners, residents and other key stakeholders of this thriving region are realizing that collaboration is the key to our ability to compete. The possibilities are unending when we work in unison,” he said.

Conference attendees will also have an opportunity to get acquainted with the new Chairmen of Clayton, Fayette & Henry Counties’ Boards of Commissioners: Steve Brown, Fayette County; Tommy Smith, Henry County; and Jeff Turner, Clayton County.

General Session III will focus on the Hollywood film industry and its major interest in Atlanta’s Southern Region as well as the state of Georgia. In fact, Georgia is the fourth largest state in the US for film and television production. This session will feature a discussion with industry leaders on how sites are selected, jobs created and local economies boosted by the entertainment industry.

A featured speaker at this year’s South Metro Development Outlook Conference is nationally acclaimed economist Roger Tutterow, Dean of the Eugene Stetson School of Business and Economics at Mercer University. Dr. Tutterow will provide a perspective on the 2013 Real Estate & Economic Forecast.

The Award’s Luncheon is one of the highlights of the conference, as each year, deserving individuals and or companies are presented with the prestigious South Metro Development Outlook Awards for outstanding contributions to the southern region. The 2013 recipients of the South Metro Development Outlook Award are: APD Solutions for the Neighborhood Revitalization Program in Clayton, Fulton and Henry Counties (Neighborhood Revitalization Award); Porsche Cars North America, Inc. for the Porsche NA Headquarters Complex (Community Catalyst Award); Senoia Enterprises, Inc. for The Historic Senoia Project (Excellence In Economic Development Award).
