San Francisco sports marketer Project Sport announced today that multi-platinum rock icon and reality TV star Bret Michaels will be headlining its inaugural Grapes of Rock Half Marathon in Northern California’s Sonoma County wine country on June 8, 2013.
This will be the first running of the concept destination event highlighting Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley region. The course begins in Healdsburg, CA, and travels 13.1 miles to Lake Sonoma, where the post-race festival and concert will be held. Opening for Michaels is local country music artist Pete Stringfellow, and the San Francisco party band Pop Rocks.
“Bret Michaels is the quintessential rock ‘n’ roll icon,’” said Ryan Chamberlain, Project Sport’s Vice President of Events. “He is a bona fide rock star. Coupled with one of the most beautiful vineyard-lined landscapes you can imagine, we couldn’t have better made our ‘Grapes of Rock’ concept a reality.”
The event will also feature post-race selections from the Dry Creek Valley Wine Growers Associations as well as a village of local artisan food vendors, creating a true mash-up of marquee fitness event and cultural festival. The event’s grandeur is all designed with a purpose, as a now annual fundraiser for the Santa Rosa Salvation Army.
The Grapes of Rock Half Marathon joins a Project Sport running roster that includes San Francisco’s US Half Marathon, the Life Time Turkey Day 5K, and the Muscle Milk Woodsy. The company also produces the acclaimed San Rafael Twilight Criterium pro cycling race, pro rider Freddie Rodriguez’ Fast Freddie Fondo, and the Echelon Gran Fondo Series of mass cycling events.
