Detectives at Private Detective respond with parental PC and mobile phone monitoring services in light of BBC News report by Dave Lee dated 8th Feb 2013: Kids ‘using coding skills to hack’ friends on games.

This is a serious crime that children do not seem to comprehend the severity of. As the skills of children have improved so has the need to educate them in the rights and wrongs of writing software

According to the BBC News report, children as young as 11 years old are writing malicious computer code to hack gaming sites and social networking accounts. More schools are educating children to programme, rather than to just use a computer, as part of their education to gain literacy, which is fundamental to understanding society. However, some child programmers are using this knowledge to write basic malware programmes to hack accounts on gaming sites and social networks.

The report goes on to say that in one case researchers were able to reverse-engineer amateur code and discovered that the identity of the culprit was an 11 year old child in Canada. Researchers have found that most of the malware was written in basic coding language, such as VB and C# and usually contained errors that professional hackers were unlikely to make. Some malware was trying to steal log-in details and other data then send it to an email address.
