It has been reported in This is Local London that over the next two years, around half of the borough’s 27,000 street lamps are set to be replaced. 8,000 new street lamp columns are also expected to be installed, and the new lights will be 50% more efficient than the existing bulbs. In the past financial year the council spent £1.3 million on the 27,000 lamps.
The team at Simple Lighting co. boast an impressive range of LED lighting solutions, including LED plinth lights, kitchen lighting and LED strip lighting. With an in-depth understanding of the environmental benefits of LEDs, the team were pleased to hear the recent news. A representative from the firm shares their thoughts on the matter.
“It is important for the government to back movements that help to reduce the carbon footprint which is why we were pleased to hear about this move towards LED street lights. LED lights are much more energy efficient than typical incandescent bulbs because they only lose 20% of their energy to heat as opposed to 80%. This will also help the council to make considerable savings financially.
“At Simple Lighting we stock a wide variety of LED lighting that could help homeowners cut down on their electricity bills”.
The team at Simple Lighting are looking forward to following the progress of this story as well as looking into other towns and cities that are adopting LED lighting.
