Santa Fe, New Mexico (PRWEB) February 10, 2013
The Inn and Spa at Loretto, managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, announces its Executive Pastry Chef Andrea Clover won the January 26, 2013 premiere episode of the Food Network’s show, Sugar Dome.
Sugar Dome is a battle royale in food competition, pairing artists from different disciplines into unconventional teams challenged with creating dazzling masterpieces of food art. Three teams of three battle it out in a themed challenge vying for the championship title and the show’s grand prize of $15,000. Clover’s team included Casey War, a welder, and Gonzuela Bastarache, a cake artist. Clover’s winning dessert was a red chile crème with an orange tequila raspberry couli and red chile cashew brittle; their display, a circus scene made out of sugary sweetness, included an actual ring of fire.
“The most difficult thing about the Sugar Dome process was the fact that this is a new show altogether, so the production company and the competitors were on the same learning curve the whole time,” said Clover. “It was a learning process in all areas, and extremely challenging. I’m very proud to have won.”
The Inn and Spa at Loretto invited locals and visitors to the Living Room, their bar area, this past Saturday morning to watch the Sugar Dome competition live and enjoy some of the winning chef’s delicious pastries.
Trained at Le Cordon Bleu, Clover joined The Inn and Spa at Loretto in Santa Fe, New Mexico as Executive Pastry Chef in the spring of 2009. Her award-winning career includes two first-place wins in the annual Chocolate Fantasy Chocolatier Competition for her chocolate sculptures. Solitary winner of the Annual Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner benefit for her: chocolate dipped elder flower panna cotta, red chile raspberry compote, blueberry foam sugar. First place in the 2007 Girl Scout Cookie Caper for her Girl Scout cookie flower creations of chocolate and sugar. The General Manager of the World Pastry Competition introduced Clover to the producers of Food Network’s Sugar Dome in Las Vegas saying “she is your next big star,” who suggested she audition for their new show Sugar Dome and then asked to participate in the show.
