Kettlebell exercises expert Lorna Kleidman commends article on the 2013 American College of Sports Medicine’s (ACSM) Survey that indicates more people are using basic workouts to get in shape in 2013.

On February 12, 2013, fitness trainer Lorna Kleidman comments on an article about a movement towards using basic fitness techniques to get in shape in 2013.

According to the article by staff writer Elyse Toribio, based on the American College of Sports Medicine’s (ACSM) Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends, more people are using traditional workouts than workouts like Zumba and Pilates. “Richard Cotton, national director of certification at the ACSM, cites the economy as a reason for the growth in body-weight training, which doesn’t require a gym membership, and group personal training – a lower-cost alternative to individualized training,” writes Toribio.

Fitness experts spoke about basic workout trends, including group personal training, body-weight training and exercise and weight loss programs. In the article, Toribio writes, “Eating right and working out – it’s the magic formula for weight loss that’s been recommended for ages, yet it was only in 2009 that a combination of the two made the ACSM survey’s top 20 list. This year, it ranks fifth.”

Kettlebell exercises expert Lorna Kleidman is pleased that people are finding ways to stay active in spite of economic difficulties. She says, “Fitness is essential to leading a healthy life and basic workouts are a great way to begin, for people just starting out.” She adds, “Healthy living begins with a person’s commitment to eat right and be active and there are great resources and trainers out there who are willing to help along the way."
