Sebastopol, Calif. (PRWEB) February 12, 2013
For the first time, lovers of great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay will have a place to taste La Follette Wines when acclaimed winemaker Greg La Follette opens a new facility in Sebastopol in March showcasing his portfolio of small-lot, single vineyard wines.
The facility, the first public tasting venue for Greg’s two-year-old label, will be located at The Barlow, the long-anticipated marketplace bringing together the very best winemakers, brewers, food producers and artisans in what was once an apple cannery.
To launch La Follette Wines at The Barlow, a weekend of activities is planned for mid-March, highlighted by a special “Popcorn With Pinot Terroir Tour” on Saturday, March 16. Greg La Follette will lead participants on a unique taste excursion that will pair his wines with different flavors of popcorn while exploring the various vineyard sites in the La Follette portfolio. Guests will finally be able to discover, for instance, whether popcorn with black truffle salt is the perfect pairing with La Follette DuNah Pinot Noir. Greg will also serenade guests with a few tunes on his bagpipes.
The “Popcorn With Pinot Terroir Tour” will be held March 16 at 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and the sessions are open to the public. There is no charge to participate, however, reservations are required to join the Terroir Tour. Contact Jana Churich at jchurich (at) lafollettewines (dot) com for reservations and more information.
The Saturday events will be bookended by an invitation-only party on March 15 and a special day for members of Vigneron, La Follette’s wine club, on March 17. Among the guests of honor will be the DuNahs, Sangiacomos and van der Kamps, the families whose vineyards produce the foundation for La Follette Wines.
La Follette Wines debuted in 2010 and the wines have continued to win accolades from some of the country’s leading sommeliers and wine writers. Both winegrower and winemaker, Greg works intensely in the vineyard to make wines that are an accurate expression of a place, whether that place is in the Russian River Valley or in the unique Mendocino Ridge appellation. While steeped in the traditions of Burgundy, Greg La Follette’s winemaking pushes the edges of convention. He uses unique vine thinning techniques in the vineyard and wild yeasts in the cellar, punching the wine down by hand. Stainless steel dairy vats are used to craft the Pinot Noirs.
La Follette Wines will be one of the first venues open to the public at The Barlow, which has been under construction on 12 and a half acres just east of downtown Sebastopol for nearly a year. The development, conceived with a nod to Sebastopol’s agricultural roots, will also house restaurants, microbreweries, wineries, a bakery, a coffee roaster and a distillery.
La Follette Wines at The Barlow is located at 180 Morris St., Sebastopol, CA 95472 and will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The telephone number is 707-827-4933. Additional information on La Follette Wines is available at http://www.lafollettewines.com.
