Santa Clara, California: Today, MovingGuru.com, a leading website for moving information and advice, published its Metro Migration Map. The data it contains should be of interest to moving companies and moving consumers across the nation.
The map, which was created using MovingGuru’s anonymous customer data along with public records information, displays the migration between metro regions in the United States. For example, when the user hovers over San Francisco, the map shows that movers moving from San Francisco are moving to Los Angeles, Sacramento, and moving to New York.
“The map was initially intended to help determine our marketing priorities,” said Sandeep Shrimali, CEO at MovingGuru, Inc. “When we realized how it captured people’s interest, we decided to publish it for our users”.
Nearly Half of San Francisco Movers Are Going to L.A., Sacramento
One interesting trend demonstrated by the map is that almost 1 in 2 San Francisco movers are either taking I-5 North to Sacramento or South to L.A. Sure, one would expect these metro regions to play a large role, but for a city with ties around the nation, this is a surprise.
That being said, SF does demonstrate healthy ties with its East-Coast counterpart, New York. Of all major West Coast metros, S.F. has the highest percentage of its residents moving to an East Coast city (9.7%).
L.A. and Phoenix Are Dominating the West Coast Moving Market
MovingGuru’s migration map makes clear that LA is a relocation black hole of sorts. Somewhat predictably, the second-largest city in the States is the leading destination for movers in Seattle, San Francisco and San Diego. More surprisingly, Phoenix is right up there with it. It is the top destination for Las Vegas moving companies, and it’s in the top three for moves from Portland, Seattle, L.A., Sacramento, and San Diego.
