According to The Telegraph, by the end of March this year YouTube users will be able to access the video sharing platform via television sets. The YouTube channel will work in the same way as catch up services and be available to download as an App alongside the likes of ITV Player and 4OD.
Search engine optimisation company, SEO Positive, is not surprised to see the search engine giant branching out as their Managing Director commented, ‘YouTube has long been the leader in video sharing and playing – launching an app to allow its users to watch dedicated channels from some of the best television makers in the world, like the BBC, seems inevitable.’
The service will be available to Freesat set top box holders, which requires a one off initial fee but no monthly cost, throughout the UK. Emma Scott, Managing Director of Freesat, expressed that she believed that although traditional broadcast format still had a long life ahead of it, viewers wanted more variety of services and interaction.
The latest move shows just how dominate Google is becoming, already conquered the search engine market, it is now owner of YouTube and Google+ and various Google sectors such as Google news, maps and alerts, as well as image based apps like Panoramio.
