Chicago Office New Headquarters Project becomes LEED® Gold Certified

West Monroe Partners, a full-service North American business and technology consultancy, announced today that its Chicago-based Headquarters office has been awarded LEED® Gold certification. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the leading standard for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

In 2011, West Monroe Partners’ added Social Responsibility to the firm’s corporate values - the first and only time a modification has been made to this list since being founded in 2002. In order to bring this value to life, West Monroe developed multiple programs designed to give back to their communities through volunteer time, pro-bono work and financial contributions. West Monroe Partners also sought LEED certification for its new 43,000 square foot state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in Chicago.

In designing and constructing its new Chicago workplace, West Monroe Partners took a variety of steps to reduce energy consumption and impact on the environment:

  •     75 percent of the office has occupancy sensors, part of an energy reduction strategy designed to consume 25 percent less lighting power
  •     85 percent of the appliances and equipment purchased are Energy Star rated
  •     Sub-metering equipment enables the firm to track and manage monthly energy usage
  •     More than 75 percent of construction waste was recycled, reused, or diverted, preventing it from going to landfills
  •     25 percent of construction materials and furniture purchased have recycled content

“As a firm, we operate on the principle that we don’t just want to do well, we want to do good.” said Kevin McCarty, co-founder and President of West Monroe Partners, “There was a strong desire to build a space that not only inspired a sense of community and collaboration among our people, but also underscored our commitment to build an environmentally friendly and sustainable business.”

More than 44,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, comprising over 8 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 120 countries. LEED guidelines are designed to reduce energy consumption, emissions, water use, and consumption of natural resources. West Monroe Partners Chicago achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

"The green building movement offers an unprecedented opportunity to respond to the most important challenges of our time, including global climate change, dependence on non-sustainable and expensive sources of energy and threats to human health," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. "The work of innovative building projects such as West Monroe Partners’ Chicago office is a fundamental driving force in the green building movement."
