A poll from the British Council has found that under- 25s are more likely to regret not studying abroad. 79 percent of those surveyed said that they would have had better job prospects if they had studied abroad, with only 21 percent seizing the opportunity to do so. Dr Jo Beall of the British Council explained, ‘People are beginning to realise how vital international skills are for enhancing their careers.’
More than half of 2,100 UK based adults surveyed, 54 percent said that a lack of international experience had held them back in career opportunities.
Interdean, the UK based moving company has been assisting students move abroad to work and study for over fifty years. Dr Beall, who conducted the study said, ‘Not enough people in the UK are taking opportunities to gain international experience. That needs to change if the UK will successfully compete in the global economy.’
The results highlight a level of disappointment in young people as a representative from Interdean added, ‘More students should be aware of the great benefits of studying abroad and utilise schemes provided by organisations such as the British Council to widen their horizons and gain international experience.’
