Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 14, 2013
Maggie’s List, a federal political action committee dedicated to electing conservative women to federal office, is proud to announce the endorsement of Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) for the 2014 election for West Virginia’s U.S. Senate seat. Current West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller (D) will be retiring from the U.S. Senate in 2014. Shelley Moore Capito is a proven leader and outstanding U.S. Senate candidate who knows how to bring people together, advocate for conservative values and hold Washington, DC accountable to the people of West Virginia.
“Maggie’s List is intently focused on getting more fiscally conservative women elected to Congress and we are thrilled to endorse Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito in her run for West Virginia’s Senate seat. As a proud West Virginian, I am excited about the experience, leadership and values Shelley brings to this race. Her candidacy represents a powerful future for West Virginia,” says Betty S. Ireland, former West Virginia Secretary of State. Ireland currently serves on the Maggie’s List board as the State Chairman for West Virginia.
Shelley Moore Capito states, “I am honored that Maggie's List has endorsed me for the U.S. Senate in 2014. I decided to run for the Senate because West Virginia needs a new and diverse voice to help end the gridlock and meet our challenges.”
“Maggie’s List knows that Shelley Moore Capito is a strong candidate who will help put an end to the exponential growth of government, record unemployment and gridlocked government. Shelley was the first Republican woman elected to Congress from West Virginia and she has a strong record of opposing excess government spending as a U.S. Congresswoman. She has all the right ingredients for victory and we stand up early and we stand up proudly to support Shelley Moore Capito,” says Sandra B. Mortham, Chairman of Maggie’s List and former Florida Secretary of State.
The United States Senate has failed to pass a budget for over four years. By contrast, Congresswoman Capito has supported budget resolutions that would have reduced spending and forced government to live within its means. Recently, Capito voted for legislation that requires both the House and the Senate to pass a budget resolution or forgo their own pay. West Virginia women understand that their families can't go without a budget, so Washington politicians must live within their means as well.
