Avid 1960's poster collector Andrew Hawley, from Vintage Rock Posters, announces finding a Buddy Holly 1959 Winter Dance Riverside Ballroom Green Bay, Wisconsin Concert Poster. According to Hawley, "The Green Bay concert was Holly’s second to last show before the tragic plane crash that took Buddy Holly’s life. This poster is very rare, and probably the only existing copy of the 1959 Winter Dance Party concert poster featuring Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens from the Riverside Ballroom in Green Bay Wisconsin. The seller went to the Winter Dance concert and acquired the poster the day after the show when filling his car at a gas station. He looked over to another car being serviced at the gas station and saw some posters in the back seat. The seller asked the person if he could take a few posters since he and his sister were at the show. He held onto the poster for over 50 years. The plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper Richardson, and the pilot Roger Peterson would crash two days later in a field near Clear Lake, Iowa."
Hawley continues, "The Green Bay concert took place on February 1, 1959 at the Riverside Ballroom. The poster was printed by Murray Poster Printing of New York City and measures 14x22 inches in size. The poster features a photo of each act and was printed using a simple black and yellow poster scheme. The tour was put on by General Artists Corporation. The promoter was responsible for putting together large tours for the cutting edge acts of the day. The Winter Dance poster was a tour blank and was changed to advertise venue location and where to buy tickets."
Hawley is willing to pay $10,000 cash for vintage 1959 Buddy Holly boxing style concert posters from the Riverside Ballroom or any other vintage Buddy Holly Winter Dance concert posters. Any condition would be accepted. Please call 310-346-1965 or email Andrew at vintageconcertposterbuyer.com.
