Have multiple discussions with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has expertise in this area and ask to see many pictures of similar patients to yourself with the expected outcome.

For Valentine's Day, cards, roses and chocolates seem to be increasingly replaced by more expensive and extravagant gifts. As of recently, the gift list includes breast implants and breast augmentation. Obviously, this is not something for the average couple, but those couples that are interested in this unusual gift, should consider several things before making the final decision.
The desire and determination to have this procedure are just the beginning of the whole process, and many women rush into it with unrealistic expectations. This, however, is exactly the opposite of the recommendations of experienced plastic surgeons, such as Dr. Kevin Tehrani of Aristocrat Plastic Surgery & MedAesthetics, who says that “additional time spending with patients preoperatively, dramatically decreases the need for reoperations in the future.”
One of the primary concerns prior to breast augmentation surgery may be the size of the breast implant. In a recent interview for New Beauty magazine, this Long Island plastic surgeon advises that patients who are unsure about which size they should choose they should “have multiple discussions with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has expertise in this area and ask to see many pictures of similar patients to themselves with the expected outcome.”
Once a patients is in the plastic surgeon’s office, there are multiple methods to determine their ideal breast size. Dr. Kevin Tehrani prefers the following methods:
- showing the patient goal pictures - before and after photos of similar patients that he has operated on.
- trying implant sizers in a predetermined bra and a tight T-shirt to visualize finalization of the breast size
- Vectra 3-D imaging - trying and projecting different size implants with different shapes and diameters
The most important tip, according to Dr. Tehrani is to research all the available options: “It's best to see at least two qualified, board-certified plastic surgeons, who perform many breast augmentations. Make sure that you ask how many breast augmentation procedures they perform yearly, since a significant practice will do more than 100 breast augmentation procedures per year”.
So, in order to make breast implants the ideal Valentine's Day gift, you need to think twice, and choose wisely and carefully.
