Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the focus of the next two online DesignRealized AIA Continuing Education courses. Open BIM: Capturing, Transferring, Exchanging Data, on Tuesday, March 5, at 12pm Pacific, highlights how different BIM technologies can be integrated into a collaborative model based on the buildingSMART Data Model workflow and standards. Russ Sanders AIA, Director – Special Projects Studio with Orcutt | Winslow will speak.
The Integration of BIM in a Design Build Process, on Tuesday, March 19, at 12pm Pacific, will explore 5 multi-use buildings for the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Lee, Virginia. Robert Androse Glover, BIM Coordinator & Project Designer for Wiley | Wilson will present how these building were coordinated in BIM starting in design, moving into pre-construction/pre-fabrication and maintained through as-built status. Each online course qualifies for 1 AIA CES Learning Unit.
“Technology and emerging project delivery methods have combined to transform the way we work throughout project design and into the entire building life cycle,” says speaker Russ Sanders AIA. “Open BIM is instrumental to making this transformation process truly successful.”
Russ Sanders AIA, has been using technology and process to re-invent architectural practice since the early 1990s. He completed the first fully described virtual building project for his firm Orcutt | Winslow in the mid 1990s and in 2005 was the recipient of a TAP BIM Award from the AIA. He has since continued to incorporate and develop new interoperable tools and workflows into projects in Arizona while lecturing throughout the United States and abroad.
Robert Androse Glover has spent 12 years working in the design industry with a focus on 3D and BIM/VDC. He has become the leader in BIM for Wiley | Wilson and has headed up development of best practices and project execution planning.
The 2013 DesignRealized AIA CES Education program consists of 24 courses split into three series: Blogs to BIM: Technology in Practice; Adaptive Reuse & Renovation, and Eco-Responsible Design 2030. Speakers for these programs are leading architects, consultants and contractors from such firms as HOK, Stantec, Hensel Phelps Construction and the DLR Group.
