It’s George Washington’s birthday; a perfect reason to visit the beautiful Mount Vernon. This year marks the 281st birthday of our first president. Visitors can expect a lot of fun activity around the big birthday celebration. Travel protection brand, Protect Your Bubble, shares tips for anyone visiting Washington’s plantation (Source: MountVernon(dot)org).
In honor of the first president’s birthday, admission is free and it opens an hour early. And on top of that, there’s a day full of music and celebration, beginning in the morning. Starting at 10 a.m., guests can observe a Presidential wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb. Shortly after, visitors can enjoy a demonstration by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington in tribute to the first president.
Located in various locations around Mount Vernon, visitors can listen to reenactments of “personal” stories about General Washington. Afterward, enjoy a special musical salute on the Bowling Green featuring the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry’s Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps. At 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., a second Presidential wreath-laying ceremony will take place to close out the day.
