Pettit Kohn Ingrassia & Lutz PC, a leading civil litigation law firm, is pleased to announce the addition of five new shareholders. The newest shareholders include Cassandra Mougin, Christina Bernstein, Jeffrey Miyamoto, and Valerie Garcia Hong in San Diego and Kelly Douglas in Los Angeles.

Cassandra Mougin is co-chair of the Carmel Valley Section of the San Diego County Bar Association. Cassandra is a member of the California Minority Counsel Program and works with several other organizations to enhance the rights & opportunities of minorities. Cassandra has been a litigator for over 10 years and is a member of the firm’s diversity committee. Her practice focuses on premises liability, professional malpractice, real estate, and business litigation. Recent successes include a winning oral argument on an evidentiary hearing to exclude hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages in favor of a small family owned business.

Christina Bernstein specializes in professional liability, complex commercial litigation and product liability cases. With nearly 15 years of litigation experience, Christina handles a wide range of litigation matters including contract based disputes, claims for breach of warranty, and other tort actions. Christina’s clients range from individuals to S&P 500 companies. Christina is also a co-founder of the firm’s Appellate practice group. Recent successes include drafting the appellate briefing where the Court of Appeal ruled to uphold a $2.2 Million jury verdict in a product liability action against a medical device manufacturer.

Jeffrey Miyamoto has been recognized by The Daily Transcript as one of “San Diego’s Top Attorneys” in the areas of Insurance (2010, 2012) and Corporate Litigation (2012). Jeff has more than 15 years of experience representing corporate and individual clients involving professional liability, business litigation, and personal injury matters. Jeff’s recent victories include the successful defenses of four separate malicious prosecution actions (all brought against attorneys and law firms) where the trial court in each case granted anti-SLAPP motions in favor of his clients. Jeff also currently serves on the Board of Directors for Challenge Center, a non-profit that provides skilled physical therapy services to individuals with severe mobility disorders.

Kelly Douglas’ practice includes premises liability, product liability, and catastrophic injury/wrongful death cases. Kelly has served as lead counsel on both jury trials and appeals. In 2012, Kelly was recognized as an up-and-coming attorney by being selected for inclusion in the Southern California Rising Stars list and also recognized as one of Los Angeles’ Top Women Lawyers.

Valerie Garcia Hong has successfully represented individuals, small businesses, and Fortune 100 companies involving professional liability, unfair business practices, fraud, negligence, and breach of contract claims. Valerie is a co-founder of the firm’s Appellate practice group. She currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at California Western School of Law, where she teaches litigation skills with the STEPPS Program. She has held various leadership roles with Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego and Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego.
