Facebook Giveaway Racks up Huge Social Engagement for Best Western

The UK’s largest group of independently owned hotels, Best Western GB, achieved one of its most successful social media events ever by running a 12-hour competition to win weekend breaks on Facebook.

The UK’s largest group of independently owned hotels, Best Western GB, achieved one of its most successful social media events ever by running a 12-hour competition to win weekend breaks on Facebook.

On Friday February 1 the group offered free weekend breaks at their hotels throughout Great Britain as part of its January Cheer Up campaign.

The competition saw page likes increase by 2,300 (fans currently at 13,648) as well as providing a boost to PTAT (People Talking About This score, which includes interactions on page, likes and comments) – which usually stands at around 200 per day and rose to a massive 4,455 during the 12-hour competition.

The group’s Facebook page recorded app views of 33,361 in 12 hours with app visits registering a high of 14,052, competition answers via app comments of 9,355, and answers via email of 7,200.

Visitors to the Best Western website showed a considerable increase of over 40% with 32,335 on 1st February compared to 22,912 the day before.

Due to the increase in engagement and fan numbers, Best Western also saw a significant rise in the group’s Junior Hotel Inspectors competition, which is currently running on the Facebook page.

As part of the newly created portfolio of family friendly hotels Best Western is searching for a group of Junior hotel Inspectors, aged 6 to ten. The chosen Inspectors will take their family along for a two night break to a family friendly hotel and draft a review for the Best Western website.

Tim Wade, director of marketing at Best Western GB, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the fantastic response to our Facebook competition. It has really boosted the interaction on our page and hopefully means we can now communicate with even more Best Western consumers.

The giveaway has been a great way to round off the Cheer Up campaign where we pledged to put the smile back on the face of Brits throughout January.”
