Introducing ‘FP Me’: Free People’s Style Community

New features give consumers the ability to share user-generated content directly onto the retailers’ website

Today fashion brand Free People announces the launch of FP Me, an innovative online style community. The website of the popular women’s label will grow from a fashion retail outlet to an integrated social community, as a place for consumers to share personal style, create looks, curate collections, and interact with each other. Users can also tap into their own photos quickly and easily via an Instagram integration.

“Our customer today is sharing her life with friends on social media. We believe she’ll also be excited to do so with fans of a brand she cares about,” says David Hayne, Managing Director of Free People. “Our goal is to create an online environment that supports more than just transactions; our goal is dynamic community engagement through customer photos and other user content.”

Users will have a variety of ways to engage on, including creating a public profile, uploading and sharing street style pics, creating product collections, ‘hearting’ products, collections, and photos, and connecting with other fashion lovers. With these tools, users will populate the site with user-generated content (UGC) elements. A live stream of popular pics will carousel on the homepage, and pics and collections will live on product detail and user profile pages. These new site features were a customized development effort for the brand, essentially fueling a social network that blends fashion and technology.

“We are always looking for ways to engage with our customer and allow her to discover style online. FP Me is just that,” says Jed Paulson, Director of Marketing and eCommerce for Free People. “Our customer can essentially build her own fashion community, and FP Me starts to bridge the gap between Retail and Online, with our store stylists playing a key role within FP Me. We are very excited for the journey ahead.”

In addition to interacting and sharing, FP Me provides a new shopping experience on Members can shop by items they have hearted, as well as through user’s street style pics and collections.

With this announcement Free People is excited to enhance their online retail channel into a style community and inspiration engine through the launch and progression of FP Me. Additionally, the brand has plans for new capabilities and enhancements to the program already in development.
