For most people, Presidents Day is just a break from work ... Why not learn a thing or two about our presidents in your free time?
Reston, VA (PRWEB) February 15, 2013
MapMuse today announced the release of its Presidents Day Locators, a series of complimentary web maps that connect history buffs with historical sites related to the American presidency. Users can now find and learn about nearby presidential birthplaces, presidential libraries, and presidential burial places with the click of a button.
“For most people, Presidents Day is just a break from work,” says MapMuse owner Mike Pilon. “Why not learn a thing or two about our presidents in your free time?” The interactive maps are designed to make finding local presidential history sites as easy as possible. Clicking on a site’s icon brings up its profile page, which is packed with helpful information such as contact details, historical facts, photos, and web links. If the birthplace, library, or burial place seems worth a visit, users can get driving directions there from any location.
In the interest of engaging the community, MapMuse encourages users to submit photos and reviews of the Presidents Day sites they visit. “Think of it as a Trip Advisor-type tool, catered specifically to students and enthusiasts of U.S. presidential history,” says Pilon. Users can also suggest data additions to a site’s profile. “We spend a lot of time putting together theses maps, and the data is excellent,” says Pilon, “But it can’t hurt to get input from outsiders.” All crowdsourced additions and edits are vetted by MapMuse for accuracy and authenticity before going live on the website.
