On February 15, 2013, after the announcement of MOFGA’s search for a new Executive Director, Colle Farmers Market offers their support, reaching out to its organic farming supporters to help widen the search for the perfect candidate.
According to the Portland Press Herald, the Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association (MOFGA) is “casting a wide net for [a new] executive director.” The article reports that under the leadership of the previous Executive Director, Russell Libby, MOFGA “became the country's largest state-level organic association,” boasting more than 6,000 members, over 400 certified organic farms and processing operations, “a 400-acre year-round education center, more than 1,500 volunteers and 32 employees.” Russell stepped down in October of last year after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The article reports that Melissa White Pillsbury, MOFGA's organic-marketing coordinator, is leading the search. "We would love to get as many submissions as possible," said Pillsbury. "They are some big shoes to fill, but we're not necessarily looking to fill shoes. We're looking for the next generation of leadership."
The organization's ideal applicant will be able to shoulder MOFGA's goals, says the article. According to the association's job posting, their established mission is to aid farmers, gardeners and food producers to “grow organic food, fiber and other crops; protect the environment; recycle natural resources; increase local food production; support rural communities; and illuminate for consumers the connection between healthful food and environmentally sound farming practices.”
Colle Farmers Market, an organic farmers market aggregator and advocacy group, is reaching out to its followers to help widen the search for the ideal candidate. Colle extends its deepest sympathies to the Libby family and offers its support in bringing awareness of MOFGA’s organic farms campaign.
